Birthday Time

Oh you've had a birthday shout Horray!

It was a pretty low-key birthday since he'd just started his new job a few weeks before and couldn't take any time off.  We did however still have cake and presents!

The requested cake was and angel food cake with cool whip snickers frosting. Apparently his mom used to make it when they were younger. I also made a cute little birthday banner for the top but didn't get a good picture of that.

Birthday Time

Well, we know have a grown up five year old at our house.  I just have to say that so far this fifth year has started out great!  The other day I asked her to do something for me and she said, "I know mom, I'm five so I can do it."  WOW...big change and one I am grateful for!  

The best part of the day was she was looking in the bathroom mirror and said, "I don't look 5, I still look the same."  So I asked her what she thought would be different and she thought she would be lots taller.
The saddest part of the day was when she thought she would be starting kindergarten soon because she was now five.  That was a hard blow when I explained she wouldn't start till next year.

 The night before when I went into her room to give goodnight kisses, she asked me if I was going to decorate the house like last year.  She even remembered the streamers that she'd walked through.  Apparently, this is now a yearly tradition!

The day or two before her birthday, she asked me to get her glow sticks, a treat and something else that I can't remember.  I figured I could follow through with two of the three items.

We let her open one present before dad goes to work so she has something to play with during the day. It was her very first tea set.  Right away she wanted to have a tea party so I told her she could invite a couple friends over. She spent the morning making invitations, deciding who she wanted to come over, and planning what food to eat. Seriously it was quite the ordeal.

And then the tea party began!

And these girls were so silly and fun.  They had me cracking up a few times.

Kissing their spoons...they thought they were hilarious!

Then Addy asked if we could play freeze dance.

She got some new lip gloss from one of her friends and they decided to cover the little man with it.

Then they decorated cupcakes.  A quick last minute decision since I still hadn't finished the birthday cake.

As soon as Mitch got home from work, she begged to open the rest of her presents.

New shirts.

Church shoes...with a heal!  She was in heaven with these.

And a big barbie...which is now her Marabelle doll.

Then we sacrificed and took her to McDonalds.

Followed by cake (which I hurried to finish) and ice cream.

We are so glad to have this little lady in our family!  She is so full of energy and I find myself truly exhausted most nights but we wouldn't have it any other way!

birthday effort

My mom and dad drove up for the weekend to celebrate Mitch's birthday. They took us all out to lunch at Red Robin and then we went shopping so Mitch could pick out his birthday gift.  It is always great to have them up to visit.

We have a conference tradition of having waffles on one of the mornings.  So we turned them into birthday waffles and had hats and plates.

This was where I failed miserably.  I'd seen some awesome camo cupcakes on pinterest and thought they would be perfect since hunting season was about to begin.  Well Mitch told me he would rather have a cake instead of cupcakes.  So I just tried to do the same thing just in a cake pan.  Turns out it looks really cool in the pan and then when you tip it out, the cake cracks and falls apart where all the different colors meet.  I was about to scratch it and just do a plain cake but I really didn't want to waste more time so I just made this one work.  I learned my lesson and will only do this with cupcakes.

We ended the night with cake and ice cream with some neighborhood friends.  It was great fun until all the kids disappeared downstairs.  Come to find out they were playing "make a mess" in Addy's room and it was a disaster!  I didn't see it until it was mostly cleaned up but I guess it was pretty bad.  To top it all off, just as everyone was leaving, Addy started throwing up everywhere and it continued through the whole night.  Quite a birthday!

She's Four

It was birthday time at our house again!  Honestly, I feel like we just had her 3rd birthday last week so it was really weird that she was turning 4.  Anyway the night before I blew up LOTS of balloons and we decorated the house with streamers and banners because this little girl was pretty excited about her birthday.  Originally I was going to decorate her doorway and just outside her room but she is in the habit of waking up once or twice a night and I wanted this surprise to wait till morning so we did the kitchen and dining room.

The night before as I was putting her to bed we were talking about her birthday and she asked if dad and I were going to draw her surprise pictures.  She does that for us on our special days and for friends when they have birthdays so of course that is what she wants us to do for her.  Good thing she said something cause I never would've thought to do that.  So here is her birthday breakfast with pictures from mom and dad!

 We let her open one present before dad left for work so she could have something to play with during the day.  It was a barbie kitchen table with chairs that don't break.

This girl loves to 'make something'.  At least that is what she is always asking to do.  Really it just means cut things, glue things and tape things.  All of which make a huge mess but it is all good for development so as long as she helps clean up (which we are still working on) I usually say 'sure'.  Today it was 'making something' with the streamers.

 She was born at 5:15pm so at this exact moment 4 years before this little gal was being pulled from my belly!

I was so proud of how this cake turned out.  This was my first time working with fondant.  I tried out the marshmallow kind and it was so easy.  I'm kind of excited to try it again.  Plus Addy was able to help me cut out the shapes and put them on.

I hope she made a good wish!

She also requested to go to McDonalds for her birthday dinner.  I really tried to convince her to choose something else because I really don't like eating there but that is really where she wanted so I happily went.  Then we came back for the cake and ice cream and a couple more gifts.  Plus she got to stay up extra late with mom and dad so she was one happy girl on her birthday!
